Before I did this feature, I hadn’t realized how difficult it would be to find actors who fitted my mental image of my leading men. Trying to imagine which actors would be my ideal casting choices, in the unlikely event of it being made into a film, was great fun, but daunting! In the end, I decided that I might have to give the actor playing Josh contact lenses and a bottle of hair dye, but that these are still the people I’d choose if I had that enviable choice
In my ideal world Peter Kenyon from ‘Captain’s Surrender’ will be played by James D’arcy:
who is perfect in the sense of being tall and elegant, with a build a little like a greyhound, remarkable light-filled eyes and chiseled features.
And Joshua Andrews will be played by Ewan McGregor:
who would do a great job at conveying Josh’s complexity, and could go from ‘cowed and invisible’ to ‘glamorous and self confident’ without blinking an eye

Oh yes, they’re perfect!!! Just how I was imagining them!

Hurray! I am relieved, because sometimes it can come as a bit of a shock to see other people’s ideas of what you’d been imagining. I know it was one of the big problems I had with the LotR films. Very few people in that looked how I thought they should. So I am very glad that this worked for you!
I haven’t actually read ‘Captain’s Surrender’ yet, but just reading the character interviews has made me think it’s time that I did.
I’d already got the idea into my head that Josh is lovely and I think the gorgeous Ewan MacGregor would be an excellent choice.
Oh, wonderful, Rob! I’m really glad you like the sound of it, and delighted that you like the sound of Josh. He is, I think, the more likeable of the two of them, but Peter is probably the one I’d want to be if I had the choice
LOL! Ewan MacGregor is a good choice for almost anything, mind you
Thanks!
